How can I support your work?
TOP is enormously grateful for all the time,
enthusiasm and commitment offered by all Tax Volunteers and other
supporters of our vital work.
The service has grown dramatically over the past year, and we have
together helped many thousands of people to resolve their tax
concerns.
However, expansion to fill this increasing need
necessarily costs money.
There are many ways in which you can support
Tax Volunteers. We are
enormously grateful for any donation of whatever size – every penny
counts.
Cash donations
Tax Volunteers depends on donations of cash to
continue its work. Every
penny really does count and we are very grateful to those who choose to
support us in this way.
We would be delighted to receive donations by
cheque, made payable to ‘Tax Volunteers’ and sent
to:
Tax Volunteers
Pineapple Business Park,
Salway Ash,
Bridport,
Dorset DT6 5DB
Donations of this kind are made even more
valuable to us if you are a taxpayer and elect to Gift
Aid your donation to Tax Volunteers.
Please see Gift Aid
section below
Major
gifts
We
look to members of the tax profession both to be volunteers and key
supporters. Any individual or group who will pledge a minimum of
£1,000 per annum will qualify to be or nominate a member of our
Charity, receiving our accounts and reports and with a vote on all
important questions affecting us. Please email taxvol@taxvol.org.uk respond positively and
generously in this way.
Regular
donations
Regular donations of any amount by Standing
Order are very important to us.
A regular gift each month gives us the ability to plan ahead and to
make sure that we can reach the areas of the UK in need of a Tax
Volunteers surgery.
To set up a regular
monthly donation of £2, £5 or whatever sum you feel you can afford, telephone 0845
601 3321 or 01308 488066 or
e-mail taxvol@taxvol.org.uk to request a form.
Donations of this kind are made even more
valuable to us if you are a taxpayer and elect to Gift
Aid your donation to Tax Volunteers. Please see below for more
information on <Gift
Aid>.
<Legacy
gifts>
Please consider remembering Tax Volunteers with
a gift in your Will. A
legacy to our charity will ensure that Tax Volunteers can continue to
bring peace of mind to people with tax worries for many years into the
future.
How do legacies help?
People who choose to remember Tax Volunteers in
their Wills are truly special individuals. They understand that the promise
of funding many years into the future is crucial in allowing Tax
Volunteers to continue to bring peace of mind to older people on low
incomes.
Leaving a legacy in your Will to Tax Volunteers
is your chance to help us to continue our important work, without using up
any savings you may need for your retirement years.
What is more, as legacies to charities are exempt from
Inheritance Tax and Capital Gains Tax, more of the value of your money
will be spent in the way that you decide.
You also have the knowledge that leaving a gift which will last
beyond your lifetime could make a real difference to the future of people
just like you, your family and friends.
What sorts of
legacies can I leave?
Your legacy could take many different forms, and your personal
circumstances will determine which type of legacy gift is best for
you. Some of the most popular
types of legacy are:
·
A specific amount of money
·
A gift of specific possessions
·
A share of your estate
How can I
leave a legacy to Tax Volunteers?
When you are updating an existing Will or
writing your first Will, please consider Tax Volunteers after you have
provided for your family and friends.
Simply ask your solicitor about the different
types of legacy you can leave, and ask him or her to include a legacy of
your choice to Tax Volunteers.
The sample wordings appearing below may help you when you visit
your solicitor.
Suggested Wording for Will
Clauses
Residuary
Legacy
I
give (%) of the residue of my real and personal estate which I can dispose
of by Will in any manner I think proper to Tax Volunteers (Registered
Charity Number 1102276) of 12 Upper Belgrave Street, London, SW1X 8BB and
the receipt of the Treasurer or the Proper Officer for the time being of
Tax Volunteers shall be a complete discharge to my
Executors.
Pecuniary

I
give the sum of (……) pounds to Tax Volunteers (Registered Charity Number
1102276) of 12 Upper Belgrave Street, London, SW1X 8BB and the receipt of
the Treasurer or the Proper Officer for the time being of Tax Volunteers
shall be a complete discharge to my

Please also ask your solicitor to insert the
following sentence:
If
at my death any charity named as beneficiary in this Will or any Codicil
hereto has changed its name or amalgamated with or transferred its assets
to another body then my Executors shall give effect to any gift made to
such charity as if it had been made (in the first case) to the body in its
changed name or (in the second place) to the body which results from such
amalgamation or to which such transfer has been
made.
<Gift
Aid>
If you are a UK taxpayer and make a simple Gift
Aid declaration, the Government will add an extra 28% to your donation
at absolutely no cost to you.
For example, a £10 donation to Tax Volunteers is actually worth
£12.80 to us.
It does not matter what rate of tax you pay, as
long as you pay an amount of income or capital gains tax equal to the tax
we reclaim on your donations in that Financial Year.
If you are donating by Standing Order, please
tick the Gift Aid box on your donation form. If you are donating by cheque,
please include a line in your covering letter to state that you wish to
‘Gift Aid’ your donation.
The following line is suitable:
"Please
treat this and any future donations I make to Tax Volunteers
as Gift Aid Donations.”
It is also important that you let us have your
full name and address, including postcode, and sign the form or letter to
enable us to claim the extra funds.
Thank you for your
support.
Sponsored Events
If you are organising an event or a
celebration, please consider incorporating some fundraising for Tax
Volunteers. Charity
raffles or pub quizzes are often enjoyable ways to raise money for a good
cause. If you would like to
help us in this way, we would be very pleased to hear from you. Please e-mail taxvol@taxvol.org.uk you would like some
guidance.
Payroll Giving
Making a monthly donation
through your wages is an extremely efficient way of giving. Your donations
are deducted from your wages before tax is calculated, so if you donate £5
per month you contribute only £3.90 and the taxman makes up the
difference. If you are a
higher rate taxpayer it will cost you even less to donate £5 to Tax
Volunteers. Please ask your
payroll department if they operate such a scheme.
Thank you for your
support.
