Advice Manager

A unique opportunity has arisen at Tax help for Older People for an ATT or CTA qualified tax professional to take a leading role in the development of the tax services needed by vulnerable older taxpayers.

Tax Help for Older People is a national charity which provides free tax help for older taxpayers who are unable to afford professional tax services or are otherwise unable to resolve their tax issue with HMRC. Services are provided through a helpline and by face to face meetings and follow up work. The charity provides the services through the staff team in the head office in Bridport, Dorset and through over 400 volunteers across the UK.

  • As the Advice Manager, based in the head office, you will be responsible for managing the quality of the advice provided across staff and volunteers in order to ensure accuracy and consistency.
  • You will also provide technical support in personal tax to the tax team in head office as well as having responsibility for the technical content of information provided as part of the complete service to older taxpayers.
  • In addition you will provide direct support to callers on the helpline, bringing their query to resolution.
  • You will have staff management responsibility

This highly variable role will be interesting and challenging, giving you the opportunity to shape it and make it your own. You will be the natural deputy for the Operations Director and you will work together in developing and enhancing the relationships with key stakeholders including HMRC, other tax professionals and advisers in the Third Sector.

The ability to work as part of the tax team as well as being a self-starter will be key.

Your expertise will be in personal taxation, however having a broad knowledge of the tax system as it is administered to those on modest incomes is important.

The charity is at an exciting time in its development, as it develops its services that will enhance its ability to help more people as part of its new Advice and Volunteering models. You will need to be adaptable, and flexible in your approach, accepting change, and be able to self motivated and proactive.

The salary is c.£40k FTE subject to experience. There is flexibility in this role to work a 4 or 5 day week.
